Fractured skull from a HVV accident? No problem...

Professor Arning and the skull traumata

40 years Mrs K. spent without a seizure due to a known, efficent and cheap medication. After a visit to the Asklepios Clinic in Hamburg-Wandsbek 2007 due to the accident the clinic suddenly diagnosed a series of generalized seizures due to a changeover of the anticonvulsive medikation and the further induction of Keppra (10 times the price of the old medication), a medicational treatment neither wanted or needed by the patient! The neurologists were in no way alarmed, 40 years without seizure, the well known fact that the correct transition of anticonvulsive drugs takes 6 to 12 months and that you don´t change a working drug especially with older patients did not bother these experts.
After several severe seizures in 2008 the patient is suddenly someone the clinic would like to "keep at a distance", and sent home without further treatment. After worried relatives escort the totally desolated woman once again to the clinic the doctors only commentarys are "well, seems she has anxiety states!" Although appearent seizures come in waves, speach and hearing problems are immenent the neurologist tells the relatives "well, if it calms you we´ll hospitalize her for a while!"
We´ve asked the head neurologist of Asklepios-Wandsbek if the usual therapy for skull traumata consists of taking away the useful anti-seizure medication until seizures occur (a very extreme form of head banging as therapy?), followed up by an overnight change to non working drugs with dangerous side effects resulting in the willful induction of further seizures. Or if this is a case of wilfull assault and battery or premeditated manslaughter that needs to be reported to the law agencys. Since we have no response to our questions we have reported the latter as intentional assault and battery to the police.
Similarities to the case of Albert Huth show that Hamburgs Alsterdorfer Anstalten, Hamburgs public prosecutor as well as the German Minister of Health have not learned a bit out of this scandal (Zeit; Snakepits in Germany).
We´ve also reported the case to the EMEA, WHO, FDA since we believe that Keppra proved ineffective and has too many risk indications for human usage.

Take this...

The family doctor

I´m very eager to care for the patient and to coordinate the health plans and treatments of the various doctors that attend to the patient. I found the medication insufficient (although the patient did not say a thing about seizures, was more concerned with the consequences of the accident) and a thorough consistency check inevitable. The patient received Keppra! She has been converted to Keppra. Keppra is known to me as a modern and effective anticonvulsive drug! From this point of view I see no necessity whatsoever, would actually see it as contra productive to the work of my colleague, to change the anticonvulsive prescription! This would surely not be in the interest of the patient!

This woman really embaresses herself! Even though all medical records show that the one sided, without knowledge or education of the possible risks for the health of the patient, without any other indication for a changing of medicines was performed by the expert neurologists of the Asklepios Klinik, this woman still rants on about some doctor X who prescribed the near fatal drugs!

Outtakes from lectures about epilepsy

"Hard to calculate drug interactions are a substantial complication in the treatment of elderly people with epilepsy! It´s no use, the doctor treating an elderly epilepsy patient has to know the relevant interactions, at least make an educated guess, which combination poses a potential threat!"
"A sudden stop of the drug medication will result in massive withdrawal symptoms, probably causing a series of seizures! We estimate the change of medication will take a year, and slowly reduce the dosis by one quarter of a tablet." (At the Asklepios Clinic Wandsbek this process takes a few hours! Supervised by wonderdoc Arning!)
